David Schein cofounded One Love AIDS/HIV Awareness Theater with a troupe of Ethiopian street kids in Awassa Ethiopia. . For many years One Love toured market-places throughout Ethiopia, performing shows about HIV, female circumcision and gender equality. MYethiOPIA is a story of cross-cultural folly and triumph, culminating in One Love's first market-place performance when a riot broke out, and Viola Spolin's 'Trust Exercise" saved the day.
“Watching MYethiOPIA made me laugh and cry. Wonderful humor and wit and a true insight into the African mentality and the ego of the westerners who go there to help. I loved Schein's ability to laugh at himself and make his audience laugh before the full realization of the pain and suffering in Africa hit home.”Dr Jennifer Hartley/Theater vs. Oppression/ (writer, director & drama therapist)

"Where did you go when you were out? I dunno. I was out. Cold. I was back. Back where? Back where you go when you go under...when you go black."
David Schein drums and chants heartbeats in 5/4 and 7/4 as he follows a camera into his left anterior descending cardiac artery on the day he keeled over in the YMCA and woke up watching a "surgeon in a turban" place a stent inside his heart.
"Some of our mothers thought of us though they never knew the sum of us or the din of us. Under the covers the others were done with us and the dung of us is anonymous isn’t it? Dunning us of all that was coming to us, stunning us with honey, stuh…stuh…stuh…stunting us and hunting us. All that our lovers had done for which one of us would be left bereft with the brunt of becoming? None of us." David Schein – INFARCATION

" Note" is a call to a disembodied love from a planet spinning out of the solar system.
"And the poles are completely taken up by the rich: they’re aw-fully wet, but cool & expensive. Because ice is money now, it feels so good on your scars."
Jim Nisbet – Note From Earth
“Nisbet’s poetry is mesmerizing. Schein’s performance is an urgent, desperate force to the very bitter end.” – Pamela Polsten, 7 Days,(VT)
